All in all the 3120 classic is an excellent, well rounded handset that will appeal to the vast majority of people who prefer a phone to actually be good at being a phone. It also has enough to keep the biggest mobile tech head happy.

Our Review of the Nokia 3120 Classic

The Nokia 3120 classic has continued the recent trend for Nokia to recycle some old product names, almost in an attempt to play on peoples nostalgia for 'the good old days" when "a phone was just a phone".

The Nokia 3120 classic has continued the recent trend for Nokia to recycle some old product names, almost in an attempt to play on peoples nostalgia for "the good old days" when "a phone was just a phone". Even though the original 3120 only came out in 2004, so it hardly requires the memory power of Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man to remember that far back. So you would think that it is a bit premature to give the 3120 "classic" status. But that is what we seem to do these days so the 3120 classic arrives to remind us how far we've come in such a short space of time.

The all new 3120 classic bears very little resemblance to the old 3120. For a start the overall "boxy" feel of the 3120 has been replaced by smooth lines and glistening curves on the classic. The 3120 classic also comes in a gram heavier but 7 mm thinner than its predecessor. The keypad on the classic remains large and easy to use and the 2.0" 320 x 240 display is clear and easy to read, as Nokia screens tend to be. The handset feels light and battery life is also good. The Series 40 user interface will be very familiar to Nokia users and it remains as easy to use as it ever was.

The 3120 classic has a slew of features that wouldn't be out of place on a much more 'high end' handset. For a start it has 3G compatibility which, when coupled with the good browser software, makes mobile internet browsing a pleasurable experience. Although the camera is an incredibly average two megapixel bore fest, it performs adequately and it has a flash. So most lighting conditions are covered. The 3120 also has a solid multimedia player that is compatible with all the major file formats (such as MP3). Bluetooth compatibility and an FM radio round out the altogether decent roster of multimedia features. To cope with this added functionality the 3120 classic has 24 MB internal memory and a microSD card slot.

If you are looking for a high end camera phone the 3120 classic plainly isn't it but for most users it will be perfectly fine and at the price point Nokia have announced (around £110 subject to change) it is a very attractive proposition. The 3120 classic is also available in a variety of colours.

 Pros

The 3120 is a solid mid range handset that has a good range of media functionality.

 Cons

It never really excels in any one particular area.
