The Nokia 5220 XpressMusic comes with an impressive 24 hours of dedicated MP3 playback time available on a single battery charge.
The 5220 is the latest addition to the Nokia XpressMusic range of phones, and comes with a number of impressive facets and features that are more than likely to appeal to mobile music fans. Despite coming in a more conventional candybar shape, Nokia haven't forfeited design and style with the 5220. The Nokia 5220 measures up at 108mm x 43.5mm x 10.5mm, weighs in at a very lightweight 78g
Chief among the vital stats of the 5220 is the impressive 24 hours of MP3 playback time available on a single battery charge. When listening to music on the go is your thing, nothing is more distracting than having to constantly check the battery to check to see whether you're going to run out of juice halfway through your favourite track or not; the 5220 neatly sidesteps this problem.
As well as long-lasting music playback battery time, the 5220 comes with dedicated music keys located on the left side of the phone, used for controlling the XpressMusic player application and the built-in FM radio (RDS support included)– the same as all of the XpressMusic handsets. The music player sorts songs by artist, album and genre, and allows you to fiddle around with the equalizer settings – there are 5 presets (Normal, Pop, Rock, Jazz and Classical) which you can mess around with, and you can save your settings on up to two slots (Set 1 and Set 2), allowing you to get that bass tone you were after. Audio file formats supported include MP3, M4A, AAC, eAAC+ and WMA.
Whats more is that the backlights of the 5220 flash and pulse in time to the rhythms and beats of the song that the phone is playing – this is called 'Music Light Display', and is a pretty nice little complimentary feature which can turn your phone into a mobile disco. Thankfully, you can turn this on and off as you please.
A 3.5mm audio output jack is included, allowing for a variety of headphones to be used with the phone, and full Bluetooth 2.0 support is included as standard for wireless headset pairing and file swapping. Naturally, a USB option is also included for those wired file transfers.
With the 'Music Light Display', the backlights of the phone flash and pulse in time to the rhythms and beats of the song that the phone is playing.
The Nokia 5220 also comes with a 2 Megapixel camera, but given that the main emphasis of the phone is on music playback, the camera is more of a de riguer addition, rather than a dedicated imaging option; better to have a camera than not at all. There is no flash or autofocus, but you can record QCIF resolution video footage with it, which, as you'd expect isn't exactly stunning quality, but good enough for MMS messages.
The handset comes with 30MB of internal memory, but this can be increased with the addition of a microSD memory card, beefing capacity up to 8GB, meaning that the 5220 can still compete with some of the smartphones of today.
In addition to a day's worth of music playback, the battery gives you over 5 hours of talk time and 400 hours of standby power.
Dedicated battery power for audio playback.
Asymmetric slimphone design.
Memory expandable by up to 8GB.
2 Megapixel camera.

Really happy with this phone. A quirky design with FM radio (and the all important 3.5mm socket!) decent enough camera for a medium range phone. Battery has lasted 2-3 days with random use (texts, calls, games etc.). The coming months will show how long the phone will last. I'll be presently surprised if it lasts the 18 months of my contract!
