The Nokia 6111 is a great phone for people who are interested only in talking and texting.
The Nokia 6111 is a basic device that would suit people looking for a compact phone to talk and text.
A compact slider, the 6111 bears a striking resemblance to Samsung’s D600 with its solid bottom section and spring-mounted top section. The hand set comes in a range of colours – black, silver and pink. The baby of the Nokia family, the handset stands just 84mm tall - smaller than a pack of cards - and weighs a feather light 92g. Its compactness means that it easily fits into a pocket or handbag. The 262k TFT colour screen is relatively small with a fairly poor resolution of 128x160 pixels. The screen is difficult to see in bright sunlight, but in the right conditions is sharp and easy to use. Located below the screen is a four-way silver navigation button with a soft key in the middle and two soft keys either side which can be programmed to fulfil a variety of functions and are operational even when the keypad is shut.
Once opened, the 6111 presents you with a glossy black keypad, which is responsive but rather fiddly to use due to its size.
A basic 1 megapixel camera comes with an LED flash for night-time shots, digital zoom and landscape mode. Pictures usually come out clearly only in broad daylight. At other times they are blurry and out of focus. If you are serious about taking photos on your phone you need to look for a handset with a higher resolution camera and plenty of memory. There is also a music player, but with just 23MB of internal memory (enough for 4-5 songs) and no option to expand it with a memory card, it’s a real gimmick.
The phonebook on the 6111 has space for 1000 contacts and five telephone numbers per entry. You can also give your contacts an image which will appear on screen when they call or text you. Voice recognition and shortcuts for eight of your contacts also feature. Within the phonebook you can toggle between entries on the SIM card and those stored on the phone itself.
As you would expect from a Nokia, text messaging is well thought out, and MMS is also supported. The Nokia 6111 also has a WAP 2.0 wireless Web browser and email access (IMAP4, POP3 and SMTP).
In conclusion, the Nokia 6111 is a great phone for people who are interested only in talking and texting but if you expect more functionality from a phone then this is probably not the handset for you. A number of customers have questioned the reliability of the 6111, complaining about the slide mechanism which is prone to sticking or breaking and software which freezes or shuts down of its own accord.
Compact and lightweight
Poor functionality, liable to freeze
