The Nokia 6650 bears more than a close resemblance to phones from Motorola’s RAZR series...
The Nokia 6650 is a compact flip phone with high speed 3G browsing capabilities. Exclusive to T-Mobile, the Quad-Band 6650 bears more than a close resemblance to phones from Motorola's flagship RAZR series of handsets. The 6650 boasts a strikingly similar metallic strip finish, and the lip which juts out from the bottom of the keypad, which, again, is kind of similar to that of a RAZR even to the point of having a similar backlight, although this one can shift between seven different colours, which is a nice touch. Like the phones from the RAZR canon, the 6500 is a compact flip-open handset which is easy on the pocket as it is on the eye.
The Nokia 6650 runs on Nokia's Series 60 operating system and comes with a number of useful applications, such as RealPlayer for watching video files and Nokia's Flash Player for viewing Flash files. The integrated GPS feature, with the easy-to-use Nokia Maps as well as a 'Points of Interest' database for finding bars, restaurants, tourist attractions, public transport etc, is just as easy to use on the 6650 as it is on the N95 Nokia smartphone.
The music player app handles MP3, AAC and eAAC+ files, but not, strangely WMAs. Alternatively you can tune into the FM radio, should you get bored of your choice of tracks; the 30MB of internal memory can be upgraded through the microSD card slot. One of the weaker features of the Nokia 6650 is its camera with its resolution of just 2 megapixels and simple LED flash. This is fine for taking quick snaps on the fly, but the images come up blurry when you upload them to a PC screen. Frustratingly, there is no secondary camera which means you can't make video calls even though the handset is supported by 3G.
Bluetooth 2.0 support comes with A2DP for wireless stereo headset action and file transfer. For more mundane wired transfer, Nokia have seen fit to finally do away with Pop-Ports and just whack in good old standard USB.

The Nokia 6650 fares better when it comes to browsing, thanks to the S60 HTML browser, HSPDA and integrated support for T-Mobile's own Web 'n' Walk mobile surfing platform. Websites are displayed clearly on the 2.2" 16 million colour screen, all text and links are clearly legible, and browsing speeds can clock of up to 3.6Mbps max. Navigation is handled by the main directional menu key and the context sensitive white keys at the top of the handset – despite looking like a Motorola phone, the keypad and OS are Nokia through and through.
Battery life is impressive, giving you up to 6 hours of talk time, and 350 hours of power when the phone is in standby mode. You can probably get away with infrequent charges every few days or so if you don't heavily make use of the multimedia features, which, if we're to be honest aren't exactly headline grabbing. All in all the Nokia 6500 is a decent all-rounder which functions perfectly well as a phone in its own right – utilitarians will love the long life battery. Did we mention that this phone does calls and texts as well?
Very good battery life.
Well GPS and HSDPA support.
Fast browsing speeds thanks to built-in T-Mobile Web 'n' Walk.
Looks a bit too much like a RAZR for comfort!
Doesn't make the most of 3G ââ¬â€ could have had videocalls.
