The Nokia 7610 Supernova includes two "Xpress On" covers so you can change the colour of your handset. In addition to this the 7610 Supernova includes a 'theme colouriser', which allows you to change the theme and wallpaper of your phone according to what Xpress On cover you have clipped on.
The Nokia 7610 Supernova is the latest desirable slide phone from the Finnish mobile phone giant. From the first time you look at the phone you can see that it is aimed squarely at the fashion mobile market. The 7610 Supernova has smooth curves to go along with the glamorous slide design, and colourful, almost psychedelic themes.
The 7610 resembles the handsets from the XpressMusic range, this is no accident. The 7610 Supernova includes two "Xpress On" covers so you can change the colour of your handset. Additional covers are, of course, available should you desire something a bit different. In addition to this the 7610 Supernova includes a 'theme colouriser'. This enables you to change the theme of your phone according to what Xpress On cover you have clipped on; you can also identify colours with your camera and adapt to the navigation key illumination and wallpaper, allowing for a great degree of customisation.
These features are all well and good but it's the hardware on the 7610 that will make or break the phone. The Supernova does not sell itself as a high end mobile and its specification does not read as such. Although the 7610 is Tri-Band compatible, there is no 3G compatibility and internal memory only reaches the mere 64MB mark. Fortunately the 7610 Supernova comes with a microSD card slot allowing you to upgrade the memory by up to 2GB.
On the flip side the 7610 does have a 3.2 Megapixel camera that is more than capable of taking some good shots. It would have been easy to stick a below-benchmark 2 Megapixel camera in this fashion mobile but thankfully Nokia have not cut corners here.
Media functionality also includes the obligatory MP3 player. The software is as good as you would expect from Nokia and the player supports all the major formats (including WMA files). You can also access the Nokia music store through the Nokia music PC client so adding new music through your PC is a breeze. If this isn't enough to keep you occupied the 7610 also includes an FM radio and the Nokia "WidSets" service gives access to you favourite websites.
Battery life is good, giving you over 5 hours of talk time and up to 300 hours of standby power, enough for you to get away without daily charges
The Nokia 7610 Supernova has bags of style and just enough overall functionality to keep more technical users happy. So often the term fashion phone means that you get a nice looking mobile with either little or no features, or an overload of high-end features which puts an incredible strain on the battery.
With the 7610 Supernova, Nokia seem to have struck somewhere in between the two extremes, delivering a colourful and stylish slider with plenty of personality and broad appeal. Whether it appeals to you or not depends on how much importance you place on 3G compatibility and high end cameras, but if you'd like a stylish phone that does the basics and does them well, then the 7610 Supernova won't disappoint.
