Nokia's 8800 Sirocco handset looks fantastic; the presentation and build quality is excellent, but it has to be said that it's pretty light on features, and it's not exactly cheap either.

The 8800 Sirocco Edition is an update of the successful 8800 handset and it is even more stylish and desirable than its predecessor.
The 8800 Sirocco Edition is an update of the successful 8800 handset and it is even more stylish and desirable than its predecessor. The sensuous curves of the 8800 are retained in this new model so, in terms of appearance and substance, it is more of a natural progression than a total overhaul. Refinement is something Nokia have given the 8800 Sirocco - even the box has the look of a posh bottle of wine. When you first hold the 8800 Sirocco the keypad is invisible. When you open the slide mechanism, which is reassuringly firm, the keypad makes its appearance. It seems that Nokia have made some subtle changes to the keypad as the distribution and form of the keys is different to the 8800. The alphanumeric keypad is now positioned with a slight slant, similar to the pad on the K800i, although it is thankfully implemented with better results here. The buttons are responsive and easy to press with the altered layout which makes texting much easier.
The display on the 8800 Sirocco is exactly the same as the old 6230i, even though it has a slightly increased colour palette. The picture is very crisp and sharp and more than capable of remaining legible in bright conditions. The 8800 Sirocco is also covered with hardened sapphire glass which makes the display scratch resistant.
As you would expect with such an expensive handset, the 8800 Sirocco comes complete with a vast selection of accessories. The box includes a charger but rather than the usual massive plug the 8800 Sirocco comes with a metal charger cradle and a pair of HS-15 headphones as well as an elegant Bluetooth headset. The headphones have some luxurious touches and output a decent quality of sound from the built in MP3 player. The player itself is more than adequate but it is hamstrung by the fact that the 8800 Sirocco has a paltry 128MB of internal memory and no memory card slot. Thankfully the 8800 Sirocco has a built in FM radio, should you get bored of the small amount of songs that the 8800 Sirocco can handle.
The Sirocco includes a 2 megapixel camera and it is fair to say that Nokia could have got away with not putting it in. The camera really has trouble with coping with anything other than perfect lighting conditions. The camera has light balance and various other functions but a two megapixel camera really should be better than this. The video camera function is similarly lacklustre but it can make videos in the 3GP but again this is limited by the small amount of internal memory.
The 8800 Sirocco is a fantastic looking handset.
The camera is definitely sub par. Skeletal feature list for such an expensive handset.
